Project Rose 2009 at Westgate School
Westagte's Project Rose was managed by Charlie and Nathan who were both busy year 11's and also ambassadors for their school. Here is their report on their Project Rose 2009 experience.
Thursday 29th January - We signed up to project rose!
Friday 30th January - Today, we gained permission from our deputy head and also our head of year, decided on when and where we will be selling the roses and also how and when we will deliver them.
Monday 2nd & Tuesday 3rd February - The lovely snow that came to us over the weekend prevented us from turning up at school so all our plans were put on hold.
Wednesday 4th February - Today we did some canvassing, including a very scary speech we said in a year 8 school assemblies!!
Thursday 5th February - Me and Charlie did another speech in a year 7 assembly this morning, with a good response. We also designed and printed off our posters, and decided where to place them. We arranged a float through our school's bursar, and printed off the name slips.
Friday 6th February - The posters are out - every tutor room has one, and they are also displayed in the main areas of our school, such as the library, reception and also the canteen area. We also received the ballot box and some sample roses, which we were amazed by the quality!!
Monday 9th February - Today was our first day of selling roses!! We set up an area in the school hall, decorated a table with paper hearts and posters, and also layed out the sample roses, which people liked the look of. Sales were slow today, but the news is slowly getting out and we are expecting more and more this week!!
Tuesday 10th February - The roses came today, which was very exciting, and we had a very busy lunch selling them!! We also passed the £100 mark, which we don't think is too bad for 2 days worth of selling!!
Wednesday 11th February - Today we were swamped by people!! We think we made another £100, which is on top of the £100 from the previous two days!! Tomorrow is our last day of selling roses, and we hope to sell them all!!
Thursday 12th February - Today was our last day of selling roses, and a busy one too!! The slips were sorted out into tutor groups, and ready to be sent off tomorrow to the lucky recipients.
Friday 13th February - Delivering the roses was manic, but a huge relief. All of our volunteers where amazing. A tiny slip up was sorted out quickly be the amazing Rhee!! We counted the money up, and so far we think we have made an amazing £450, and the exact amount will be worked out soon!!
This project was a fantastic idea, and we are soo pleased to have been able to participate in such a fun and worthwhile project. Not only have we made an amazing amount of money for such a good cause, but we have helped to make Lizze's dream come true. Our friendship has grown between us and we have also picked up vital skills along the way, such as team building and organisation skills, which we will take with us and put in to use in later life. The laughs and fun we have had during this project will be a memory we will probably never forget.
Both me and Charlie would like to thank Mr Nicholson, who has helped us tremendously throughout the project, all of the office staff, who helped us in terms of advertising, taking phone messages for us, putting deliveries aside, and also with counting the money and also a big thank you to all of our volunteers, who went out spreading the word and taking over with the sales when things got busy and off course the hectic delivery!! Miss Webster and Mrs Mellor also helped us, and we would like to thank our friends and family, who have put up with us for two very stressful but enjoyable weeks!!
Me and Charlie have enjoyed this project and hope that Project Rose will run for years to come!!
Thanks,
Nathan Bedford and Charlotte Freemantle, Project Rose Leaders and Westgate School Ambassador's.
