Project Rose 2009 at Admiral Lord Nelson

Below is an Karla Neil's and Aisha Beech's account of their Project Rose 2009 experience at Admiral Lord Nelson.  Hopefully it will give you a flavour of how the project works.

January 27th - After watching ITV news at six o'clock last night, we got in touch with Rhiannon Wheeler and asked to be involved in the project today. We recieved a confirmation email and set off!

February 4th - After a few days off of school caused by the lovely SNOW that we had, we finally got permission from our Headteacher to run the project!

February 5th - Today we set off making posters and videos to put into assemblies and around our school. After many technially difficulties, we finally made a video to advertise it to other year groups.

February 6th - We were supposed to be giving an assembly today, however our plan was ruined, so after a little panic at the start of the day, we decided to run around year 11 tutor groups playing our video. It seemed to be a success! After tutor time, we took some time out to print some posters, put them into every tutor group and decided where we would like to put them around the school. We also painted a pink banner to attract some customers! Finally, by our last lesson of the day, we recieved the Ballet Box and four beautiful roses and we were started to feel the buzz!

February 9th - We set up our section to start selling roses today. As our advertisment wasn't very successfull, we sold a poor 2 today, however 2 roses is better than no roses!

February 10th - We sold a few more roses today, alot better than yesterday, however still not very good at all. A bit dissapointing infact.

February 11th - Today business was a success! A nice kick, for Aisha and I, and for the money that was raised! Also, we recieved the roses which was very exciting!

February 12th - Today we hit our mark of £100 and then made some! Business was good and everyone was very excited. As we had a chance, and lots of roses to deliver, we delivered all of the roses which were brought for Year 11's. The school was buzzing! We still have another 40 roses to sell and as our plan was to stop selling them today and deliver them tomorrow, we have decided to give it a last push tomorrow! Hopefully it will be a total success as people have now seen the roses and become more aware!

February 13th - Last day of selling roses today, was not as successfull as the past 2 days, however still adding to the total. We are not sure on our total amount as of yet, however we were very excited to deliver all of the roses today and to spread valentines cheer!  We will update our page with our total amount after half term as we now have a week off! Happy Valentines Day for tomorrow everyone!

We are hoping to make the maximum amount of money possible from this project, for Lizze and for Breast Cancer Research.
