A blooming good idea
(Hampshire Chronicle 22/02/2007 – Page 8)
THE sale of roses at a Winchester school on Valentine’s Day was such a success that all 160 flowers quickly sold out. Pink blooms were sold at Kings School to raise money for Cancer Research, with the idea coming from Year 8 pupil, Lizze McLean, whose mum, Dr Victoria McLean, is battling breast cancer.
Lizze, of Quarry Road, had the help of 22 friends who delivered the flowers, made posters and helped to take £260 at their stall.
Dr McLean said: “I had to go for a second lumpectomy, so it was good to know Lizze was doing something really positive as I was under the knife. I’m well and waiting for results, but not quite sure what my fate will be. A couple of Lizze’s friends said they’d be happy to continue it in their schools. It was a lovely idea and crated quite a buzz.”
Lizze added: “It went well, but we didn’t have enough roses. Hopefully we’ll do this next year, so we’ll order 200. The students though it was a great idea. We had a lot of teachers buying roses as well.”
