Student Co-ordinator Instructions

Dear Student Coordinators

On behalf of all those touched by breast cancer I would like to thank you for taking up my campaign and wish you lots of fun with it as you bring great excitement to fellow students and friends on Valentine’s Day. – Love Lizze xxx

To implement the campaign please follow the instructions below.

1. Please make sure that there are two of you coordinating the campaign so you can support each other. You will both be in charge of running the campaign and organising a team of helpers to help sell and deliver the roses.

2. Once your school or college has registered their interest in the project we will email you a user name and password that you can use to access the registered user area of the site. Here you post questions and suggestions on our forum and write a report about your experience of Projectr Rose

3.  In January download the latest campaign poster and fill in the details of your event such as dates, time, location of sale etc.  Go to the main menu and click 'Downloads'

 4. Use this poster to advertise your event for the three weeks prior to Valentine’s Day.  Try to get into year assemblies to talk about the campaign and show the campaign film from the home page on teh website of via U-tube.  Stress that rose sales are on a first come first serve basis and once they are gone they are gone.

5. In late January (will advise you of the date near the time) John Lewis will deliver the number of roses you have requested and a ballot box for the slips.  The roses will arrive in boxes of 12.  Once you know how many boxes you have go to the 'Downloads' section on the main menu and print off one page of slips for each box.  It is vital that the number of slips you print (12 to a page) matches the number of roses you receive so that you do not sell more roses than you have received – THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!  You will have disappointed friends otherwise!

5. You will need to find a secure money tin for collecting payment for orders and organise a small float to help with cash sales.

6. The week before Valentine’s Day set up a table with some silk roses on it, the ballot box and the money tin containing the correct number of slips. Choose an area where there is lots of student traffic so you can be easily seen.

7. To place an order for a rose the pupil needs to pay you £2 and you hand over a slip on which they write the name and tutor group of the person they wish the rose to go to.   Have the student fold their slip and place it in the secret ballot box.  They do not need to put their own name on the slip as all roses are delivered anonymously in the true spirit of Valentine’s Day.

8. Do not panic if the roses are slow to sell at the beginning of the week as they usually sell VERY QUICKLY in the last two days before Valentine’s Day.  Have extra friends on hand for these last two days to give you some extra help.

9. On the nights leading up to and especially the night before Valentine’s Day take home copies of the tutor group lists.  Open the ballot box and sort the slips into tutor groups.  Taking a tutor group in turn mark off the number of roses an individual is to receive by placing ticks against the recipient’s name on the tutor group list.

10. On the morning of Valentine’s Day (or as near too it as the date of Valentine's will allow), usually in tutor time, get your delivery team together and give each helper a tutor group or groups to deliver too and the correct number of roses.

11. Collect together the funds you have raised and ask your school finance office to make a check payable to “Project Rose in aid of Cancer Research UK” and send the cheque to Project Rose, PO Box 584, Winchester, SO23 3GF.    If you have any roses left over please contact us via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 12. Give yourselves a big hug from me for all you have done and think about how much you have done to help beat breast cancer.
